Portrait of Louis XVI.  Louis XVI was executed on January 21, 1793, a major event of the French Revolution. At his execution, he was known to have asked if there was "any word of Perouse," referring to the lost French explorer Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse, whom he had appointed to lead an expedition worldwide.   Published by Furne and W. Coquebert in Paris. Engraving on woven paper. Made by Audibran' after 'Auguste Raffet.' Auguste Raffet (1804-1860) was a pupil of Charlet.
