"They were kings, they were princes, they were lords and chiefs, those first families of Ireland. Their myriad descendants will celebrate the birthday of Erin's patron saint on Thursday. This map shows where most of the families lived from approximately the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries. Names omitted were left out because of lack of space.
