Urged ever onward by the Quest of the Unknown, the Dauntless Leader, symbolic of Man's age-old struggle to Master the Earth, has Braved the Sea, Conquered the Desert, Pierced the Jungle, Scaled the Mount. At last his tired eyes behold the Goal of his Dream. It is his gift to World Knowledge.
This is the central canvas in a notable series of five great murals - The Romance of Discovery, by the internationally famous artist, N.C. Wyeth - recently completed for the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington. The four remaining paintings will be reproduced as frontispieces with the National Geographic Magazine during 1928.
