Plan de la Baie de Monterey
DESCRIPTION
A crisp clear map of the Bay of Monterey on California. Relief shown by hachures - 'Montagnes de St.Lucie' and a few other features are shown- 'Dunes de Sable', but the map was drawn before any town existed on the bay. The only habitation marked is the Mission de St. Charles at Carmel. North to the left of map. This map is from the Voyages of La Perouse who set sail from France in 1785 to continue the discoveries of Captain Cook. He was shipwrecked in 1788 but his narrative, maps, and views survived and were published in 1797. Published 'Atlas du Voyage de la Perouse' No.34.
