DESCRIPTION

A large and striking map of Pennsylvania by Reading Howell. This is a very rare larger edition of his 1792 and 1795 maps. The map shows great topographical detail by hachure, detailed boundaries, roads, counties, places, waterways, and other information. The dedication cartouche in the upper right shows the agricultural resources present in the state. The Schuylkill Permanent Bridge etching is on the lower left, and a large title cartouche is on the lower right. The map also shows Ontario County, which was reorganized and renamed to Bradford County a year later in 1812.
