DESCRIPTION

This is a beautiful and striking example of Homann's second state of the map of St. Petersburg and surrounding regions. The map shows the eastern portion of the Gulf of Finland, St. Petersburg, and the region known as Ingria. The map is beautifully hand-colored in outline and wash as published. The map shows ports and towns, waterways and bodies, churches, forests, and notations. This map is adorned with three of the more highly decorative cartouches by Homann of all of his maps. This is one of Homann's more highly desirable and sought-after maps. This is an excellent example with rich impression and contrast.
